FRIDAY FUNNIES ABOUT REAL LIFE TELEPHONE SURVEY RESPONSES

Our South Florida Market Research Firm, TYG Marketing, Inc. could write a book that would induce you to laugh out loud at some of the responses we have been given when conducting telephone surveys for market research projects.

My favorite happened when we were conducting a Motor Vehicle Inspection Program for the State of Florida. We surveyed respondents by telephone throughout the State of Florida. We were going through the qualifiers with a respondent in Jacksonville whereupon we stated our purpose and asked to speak with the person in the household that had taken their vehicle for their annual vehicle inspection (remember when?). The lady to whom we spoke said: “That would be my husband but he passed”. Our interviewer gently replied: That’s fine, mam, we wish to speak with persons who both passed and did not pass the motor vehicle inspection. To which the respondent replied: “You don’t get it lady….he’s dead!”

A much shorter tale involvedĀ a gentleman we reached with a telephone survey for the City of Miami Springs. Again, the surveyor stated the purpose of the survey, and asked the respondent if it might be a good time for him to assist us. When he replied that it wasn’t, we asked when would be a better time to call him back. Answer: “Never would be a good time!”

Oh, the life of weary and tenacious telephone interviewers…any war stories to share?
